Legend, Hardback, 1984

Est Cost: Out of my league! A mint condition version hits £500+, signed can double the price..

Notes: The price varies greatly on this depending on condition. An ex Library book with all the stamps and leaning boards and very yellow pages could be £125. Put it this way, some people will bid on a book just to get a better condition dust jacket for their own copy..

Quality needed: Any - I do not own a Hardback version of Legend.

Jan to March 07: A non signed excellent unsigned copy hits £500. Another in the condition, bar a small stamp (not library) is sold for £311. An ex-library book, with multiple stamps to the back, front and page sides is sold for £142, unsure if it was re-boarded or not.

Oct 06: Signed very nice copy is sold for the start price, £700. Two more go during this month, both signed non library editions, and each for around £720. Another unsigned copy, again non library went for £500.

Sept 06: Nice copy (seller says not mint) signed, at £920 but has not hit its reserve price. When relisted a few weeks later, is bought for £720 (by the same person that bid all the way to £920 no less..) Another signed copy (apparently to Gemmell's mother?) is on sale for £1500 start, and £3k buy it now. This either went unsold, or was removed from the auction.

A signed copy with a start of £1000 in mint condition is sold for the £1000 start price.

Aug 06: A Copy was on Ebay with a buy it now price of £350, and Phil bought it. Condition: Ex-Library book, no spine lean, original boards. Dust jacket has some damage, but protected by Mylar covering. Price is unclipped, minimal library stamps (1? 2?) and a slight blemish, possibly stamp ink to one or two pages. Pages discoloured by age. Very nice indeed.

July 06: There is a copy circulating ebay at the moment that is going unsold as the reserve price is not being met, hitting a staggering £440.. It is signed, and is stated as unread, so as NM as one can get probably.

March 06: Excellent condition went for £560, Quote from Seller "No Chips, tears, No wrinkling on dust jacket, The book is square and tight. "

King Beyond the Gate, 1985 Hardback

Est Cost: Out of my league! A mint condition version hits £400+.

Notes: Again the price varies greatly. This is supposidly rarer than Legend in Hardback, and I briefly saw one being offered on ebay for £175 start with £225 'buy now' price. It lasted less than a day in auction before being bought outright.

Sept 06: A signed ex-library book, with minimal stamps, and looking in a simalar condition to the image to the left went for £175. There where no images of the title spine without the sleeve, so not sure if the boards had been replaced (as with my library book). Another signed version "The book is in brand new condition not having been read its perfect. " is sold for £470.

July 06: £450 for a unsigned excellent (non library book), description roughly as above with regards to yellowing.

March 06: Bought for £470. Quote from seller: " ...not a library copy. all pages in tact first published in GB 1985 (hardback and paperback) by Century. book is in very good condition pages are slightly yellowing."

Quality needed: Any - I do not own a Hardback version of King Beyond the Gate

Waylander, 1986 Hardback

Est Cost: Again, out of my league. A mint condition version hits easily £500+. Hardly see this book on Ebay.April 07: A very nice unsigned copy, not ex-library, hits £571.

Oct 07: A signed copy (no real details on condition, but plenty of photos made it look good) came up for sale with a huge BIN of £1850! And went unsold surprisingly. It was relisted with a low entry price of £500, and a BIN of £1750, but with only one bid it did not hit the reserve price and went unsold. It came up again, with a minimimal entry price, and a BIN of £1250 - more reasonable than before, and reached just under £400 before failing to hit its reserve price. Later in the month, an ex-library version, with stamps, removed papers, wear and tear normally asociated with books of this age went for £125.

Feb 07: A signed copy, along with DVD footage of David Gemmell signing the book, sells for £1550. Here are the details:

Basicly I filmed a book signing/talk by David Gemmell in England,I will have to watch the Video again to see which one(I'm pretty sure its one of the later tours probably one of the Skilgannon books) but I've been to a few,I took along some of my other (non signed) books and asked if he would mind signing them along with the new book,so I got him on tape talking about his writing, a Q and A session and then my meeting him and asking a few spoddy questions as he signed my books,He does look surprised to see Waylander and its him who I got all the information about how rare the book is and there only being 750 1st editions ect, which you see on the DVD.

I really didnt think much about it when I got it filmed as I just really wanted a record of my actually meeting him, rather than signing my books for the future, but it seems its pretty much unique,I've asked a few other David Gemmell fans/collectors on chatrooms and websites http://gemmell.suddenlaunch.com/ and it seems no one else thought of videoing him,but at the time we all though he'd go on forever.I will be giving a copy of just the actual moments of the Waylander signing part to the winning bidder, its approx a minute long with DG talking and signing Waylander.

Oct 06: A (unsigned) excellent copy goes for £535. The £1500 book is also listed again.

Sept 06: A perfect signed copy has a start price of £1500, but goes unsold.

Quality needed: Any - I do not a Hardback version of waylander.

Wolf in Shadow, 198x Hardback

Cost: £400+ depending on condition.

Feb 07: A Mint unsigned copy, lookig like it had just come fresh from a shop, sold for £310.

Oct 06: Signed mint Copy, starting at £10 hits £435.

Aug 06: With 2 days to go, a signed excellent copy is at £165. This is the best copy I have seen, and was going to bid myself, thinking I may get it about the £150 mark - no chance. Expect it to get near £400. This book was withdrawn close to the end, but has been re-entered. I spoke to the seller about it, and it is back again, currently at £300 with a few days to go. This book finally hit £535!

Previous: The copy shown sold for £50!, and was an ex-library version. Noone asked about the condition, so I am unsure whether there where stamps or other library markings.

Quality needed: Any - I do not a Hardback version of Wolf in Shadow.

Drenai Tales, Vol: 2, 199x Hardback
